 Bobby Cameron

biography | licensing
Bobby Cameron is a riveting live performer in tandem with his powerful, original music.
From acoustic to electric, from a whisper to a scream, the guitar in the hands of Bobby Cameron can evoke the full range of human emotions in a listener. He combines breath-taking technical virtuosity with emotional directness and honesty. Bobby stands alone playing and singing his songs with the consuming passion of someone burning to be heard.

Bobby’s playing is anchored in the Celtic soulfulness of his Cape Breton, NS, upbringing and takes full flight into the heartlands of Roots, Folk, and Blues-Rock. While encountering these textures in his newly adopted home of Edmonton, Alberta, the sum of his many influences is music with a unique twist and style.

It was in Edmonton, Alberta that Bobby formed his first original band entitled “The Bobby Cameron Band”. He began touring and gigging constantly across Canada building his fan base one city at a time. Full of drive and determination, Bobby was on a mission to shake up the Canadian Music Industry and then eventually establish himself globally.

From here, Bobby went on to be crowned Much Music’s Canadian National Guitar Warz winner. With over 1,000 entries coast to coast, Bobby walked away with the title of Canada’s Best Unsigned Guitar Player.

The Alberta Recording Industry Association (ARIA) nominated Bobby in seven categories and awarded him Best Rock Artist on Record two years in a row. Bobby was awarded Socan’s Songwriter of the Year for a song called “Human Fortress” from his self-entitled debut album.

Bobby won the Mix 96 Super Session Competition located in Edmonton, Alberta. This was a recording package produced and engineered by world-renowned Randy Staub. Staub also engineers for the legendary Producer Bob Rock.

Bobby was also the Prairie Winner of Socan’s National Songwriter Competition held in Toronto. He was a finalist in Yamaha’s National Talent Search, and first runner-up in Edmonton’s radio station K-97’s Home-Grown Competition (as selected by Judges Allen Frew of Glass Tiger, Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo, and songwriters Desmond Child - Aerosmith, and Bon Jovi).

In addition to these various awards and nominations, Bobby has released to national radio, four singles from his past two CDs. Two of these tracks were entered into the Canadian Adult Contemporary Charts. “Human Fortress” hit # 46 with a bullet, while “If I Wait There For You” reached # 62. “The Other Side” entered the Canadian AC Future Adds at # 5. All three of these singles were from his first self-entitled Indy release. The remaining single called “Release Me”, taken from his latest work “Drowning on Dry Land”, reached # 1 on the AC Future Adds. All of these chart numbers were located in The Record. At one point in time, Bobby was the only Indy act on The AC Chart, receiving more radio airplay than such mega acts as Elton John, The Wallflowers, Stevie Nicks, and Billy Joel. CHUM Radio in Toronto has been a huge supporter of Bobby’s work. “Human Fortress”, at one point, was receiving 21 spins per week on the station.

RPM Magazine has also recognized Bobby’s talent and strengths as a songwriter. His single “If I Wait There For You” hit the low 30’s on their Adult Contemporary Chart.

The production of music videos has been a big part of Bobby’s success and national acclaim. He has released three videos to date for the tracks “If I Wait There For You”, “The Other Side”, and “Worn Out”. All three of these videos have been featured on CMT Television, while some have seen regular rotation. Much Music has also featured these videos during numerous occasions on their Rapid Fax segment, while covering both of Bobby’s CD launches with full interviews and live footage.

Bobby Cameron has performed and appeared on stage with many of North America’s biggest acts. He opened for Chris De Burgh, Colin James, Jeff Healey, Burton Cummings, April Wine, Trooper, Loverboy, Big Sugar, Long John Baldry, and The Kentucky Headhunters, to mention only a few. Bobby has also appeared on stage with keyboardist Chuck Leavell, bassist Darrel Jones, and vocalist Bernard Fowler of the Rolling Stones.

Bobby’s latest release entitled “Drowning on Dry Land” packs an emotional wallop that has continued to satisfy his audience. Anchored in the Celtic soulfulness of his Cape Breton upbringing, the CD takes full flight into the heartland of acoustic rock. Featuring the hit single “Release Me”, this project was mixed by renowned engineer Mike Plotnikoff. Mike has worked with The Cranberries, Bryan Adams, and Kiss, to mention a few.

Along with releasing singles, producing videos, and recording CDs, Bobby continues to tour constantly across Canada. Creating, building, and expanding his market base, Bobby has been, on many occasions, invited to perform during Canadian Music week, Music West, The East Coast Music Awards, and North By North East.

Most recently, Bobby signed a publishing deal with Carlin Canada out of Toronto. Carlin originates out of New York City. The legendary Freddy Beinstock started Carlin America. Freddy operated Chapel Publishing for years before selling his shares to Warner communications. As a publisher, he was responsible for finding hit songs for many artists, including Elvis Presley. Carlin Publishing, after seeing Bobby showcase at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, offered him a deal. Their plan is to promote Bobby’s music to all mediums and to play an integral part in landing him an artist’s deal.

The word is out: Canada’s best kept secret is now ready to take his music to the world.
